Walter Grimes started his career working in the large tailoring factories dotted all around Yorkshire and one of the people he learned from was Master Tailor, Harold Leighton, who started his business, Leighton’s Tailoring in 1929 in Ossett, West Yorkshire. Wanting to take the trade forward with new practices and designs, Walter decided the best solution would be to set up his own tailoring shop once Harold had decided to retire. Following the first 10 years of successful growth in both the retail and B2B market, supporting tailoring shops all over the country, he soon realised that a purpose-built factory was a necessity to allow the continued growth and studio design for all the garments and clothing variants his customers were asking of him. Walter was a relentless worker, who never left the floor and worked with this staff on all production aspects of the garment orders. Until his death in 2017, he worked at the factory nearly everyday, pushing new ideas and always tending to the current pattern blocks to update them for the present trend in fashion.

We are honoured to continue in his footsteps and carry on this tradition. As one of the last UK manufacturers of suit clothing and formal wear, we are now embarking on the next phase of our company, with new exciting designs and increasing our offers to include nearly all aspects of made-to-measure and bespoke clothing to suit the lifestyle of both the ladies and gentleman who wear our handmade garments with pride.
